RV Park Rating

I’m so often amused by the reviews people leave for RV parks. Some of the comments seem so far off in left field, I wonder if the folks really understand what the RV lifestyle is all about?

This is an RV park review that I expect to see one day soon…

I wish I could leave negative stars, but I’m forced to leave one!

We arrived at 7:30 PM and had to wait for 10 minutes before we could check in. There was only one person at the desk, unbelievable. She told us that the office closes at 8. What the heck is that, no 24 hour service? What if we have an emergency? Once we finally were assigned our plot, we drove around and parked in the location. When I got out, I stepped in dirt! Not even a concrete pad, no deck, nothing, what a disappointment. I had to setup a shoe washing station so that we didn’t track dirt into the coach and scratch the marble floors. I always closed the doors quickly so we didn’t get dust on our chandeliers. Do these people think we spent $729k on our coach so we could park in dirt? Unbelievable!

Not to mention, there was a tree in our plot, so we couldn’t setup our golf cart garage, that’s outrageous. My hubby didn’t want to take it out anyway, what with all that dirt around… The stupid trees were dropping leaves all over the place. I hate piles of leaves, they have bugs in them.

They don’t have someone come and pick up the trash, so we had to walk the trash to a awful smelling dumpster, it was humiliating! I had to touch the dumpster lid! I went through half a container of sanitary wipes after that. I feel like sending them a bill!

There was no lifeguard at the pool, but that didn’t matter because I would never swim in that thing, it had leaves in it, can you imagine? If I wanted leaves in my water, I’d go swimming in some filthy lake or something. The sidewalk around the pool, if you could call it that had cracks in it. My high heels got caught in one, but luckily I got it out without damage. If I had damaged my Valentino’s, I would have sent them a bill!

I was so glad that we have a washer and dryer in our coach because the laundry room was so stuffy and humid. There were already people there and no machines were even available. That’s completely unacceptable. I noticed the machines didn’t take credit cards, so I guess you have to find change somewhere. I haven’t even seen change in years, where do you get it?

I feel sorry for anyone that has to use the shared bathrooms and showers. They didn’t supply towels, wash clothes or even shampoo. Jeez I wish I could give negative stars.

The people next to us had a fire going all evening stinking up the whole place. They were out there all night laughing and talking loud. I called the police, but they never came. Figures.

You can be sure we’ll never be back here!

Evac for Hurricane Dorian

On Wednesday, 9/4/2019, we decided to evacuate from Lake City, SC during hurricane Dorian. If we were wondering if we should, I was partially convinced while driving home when I spotted the wagon trains of Lineman repair trucks that were heading into town.

Originally thought we’d head over to Chattanooga, TN, so that we were on the other side of the mountain range. We decided that we really didn’t need to go that far.

As always, I was calm and collected about the storm coming. My lovely bride, and campground manager, Dee was a little nervous.

But don’t worry, I got her calmed down after a while. 🙂

We wound up finding the last open spot at Fort Mill KOA and took it. Turns out it was a back in at the end of the line and had a pretty good drop off at the front. We had the front jacks almost maxed out and were still a few degrees down in front.

We arrived at the park after dark and left around 11 A.M. the next morning, so we can’t comment much on the park itself. While it did seem organized and clean. We ran into an issue as we were leaving, as there was a huge rut on the side of the very thin pavement into which our Momentum decided to fall.

Since there’s no reference in the photo to show how wide this part of the road is, below is a picture of the Momentum about 10 feet past the rut.

We left here and headed over to the Camping World Racing Resort at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. They were open for business for anyone evacuating from the storm.

When we arrived, we were setting up when the chef at a food truck came over and told us that we could come over and eat for free! Then he said, “Oh no, you guys look busy, I’ll bring food over.” He did, bringing us some BBQ chicken, macaroni salad and cole slaw with some cookies for desert!

We saw that hurricane Dorian had passed the carolinas and things looked safe on Friday morning, 9/6/2019, however, I had to work, so we stayed all day and left about 6:30 P.M., heading back to Lake City.

How we ended up with a toy hauler by Grand Design.

We had been coveting Class A rigs for over a quarter of a century. Every RV show we attended was with the intention of someday owning a Class A. With that being said, when we actually sat down to spec out the requirements that would determine our needs we were shocked! Hands down it was apparent we needed a large towable with slides.

We looked at travel trailers and 5th wheels and initially disregarded toy haulers. Basically everything we looked at whether it be new or used needed renovations to provide adequate office space for both my husband and myself. We started off looking at bunkhouse models because an outside kitchen was a priority for us. Again, we would have had to do fairly extensive renovations and remove furniture, built-ins and add electrical outlets and lighting. We kept returning to the idea of a Toy Hauler. It didn’t make sense because Jack had just sold his FJR and I sold my Suzuki…thus we had no toys! Actually, it made perfect sense; a toy hauler provided a separate area for our office that was not part of the living space.

We had been researching different brands and some of them were had perfect floor plans for our use. We had some pretty stiff requirements and ultimately ended up having to give up some of our wants to actually satisfy our needs. When it was all said and done we settled on Grand Design as the manufacturer we wanted to go with as they warranty their units for 3 years and for full-time living. No other manufacturer would stand behind any of their units for full-timers.

NOTE: We have to give a huge shout out to Marc and Trish of Keep Your Daydream. If we hadn’t found their Youtube channel we might still be sitting at home waiting for someday!

The first night!

For the first night my brother from another mother, Mark, and I stayed at an RV park that was local to the dealer. The Creeks Golf and RV resort was great, being well kept and having great WiFi.

The first spot that we were assigned turned out to be a problem though, as it was way to tight for me to hairpin into. Since it was a pull through, I did have the option of pulling past it on the road in front and then backing in. I felt that since I had owned this 43′ trailer for all of about forty five minutes, that backing into a spot would be best reserved for some time in the future!

Once setup, we noticed that the center of three A/C units was not pushing any cold air. I called the dealer and made arrangements to bring it back in the next day. So much for hitting the road!
